Good bowling from Chris Bateman and Paul Sullivan came close to bringing Wooburn Narkovians victory in the Chiltern League on Saturday. On a wicket which was to prove helpful to bowlers, Wooburn made 134 all out, and then reduced opponents Amersham Hill to 113-9.
Wooburn were asked to bat and opener Paul Cooper was out with only two runs on the board. The batsmen made slow progress against the Amersham attack, without putting together any substantial partnerships. Useful knocks from Angus Porter (29), Jeff Morris (24) and Matthew Curtis (28) helped to see Wooburn to 134. Owens, with 4-36, was Amersham Hill\s most successful bowler.
Amersham got their innings off to a good start, taking their score to 70-3 in the 24th over. At this stage it seemed as though they would reach their target. The Wooburn bowlers performed well, keeping the game tight and the Amersham innings closed on 113-9. Bateman, with 3-10 from 9 overs, and Sullivan (3-30 off 12) were well supported by the other bowlers.
Wooburn ended the league season in 7th place, after notching up 5 wins and 4 draws from their 17 games, with 2 matches abandoned. Wooburn 2nd XI lost to Amersham Hill by 6 wickets on Saturday to finish 9th.
