A solid all-round performance by the 1st XI gave them a comfortable six-wicket victory over Hillingdon 1sts on Saturday.



Wooburn’s bowling attack kept the home side’s batsmen in check for most of their innings, with James White in particular displaying excellent control during his 20-over spell. Rowan Friend contributed some pacey overs at both ends of the innings, while Phil Day’s eight overs went for just 15 runs.



For the third league game running, however, it was Martin Tennant’s off-spin that picked up most wickets – three this time, although it could have been five if a couple of umpiring decisions had gone his way. The result was a Hillingdon total of 166-8 from their 52 overs.



Wooburn lost two wickets seeing off the opening bowlers, but Ian Cuthbert (46) and Dave Pidgeon (51) then built a match-winning partnership, which included taking 26 from Huntley’s first over. Both batsmen fell before the finish, but there were no further alarms as the target was reached with nearly ten overs to spare.
