Match Report
A spirited display from the 2nd XI ended in an honourable draw with Division 4B side Amersham. Highlights included a marathon spell from Paul Cuthbert, in his first game of the season, an outrageous Wooburn over-rate of nearly 20 per hour (which required a few tactical lost balls), Rob Smith\s re-emergence as a bowler and Angus\ failure to score a hundred.
On Cup Final day, the toss is crucial, and Amersham promptly decided to bat after winning it. Lacking a senior opening bowler, young Ben Sturgess rose to the task, backed up well by Paul. Amersham batted solidly throughout to reach 192 after 53 overs. Rob Rogers picked up three good wickets, and Rob Smith chipped in with 3-29.
In reply, Amersham\s opening attack made life difficuct for our men. Ward and Lishman bowled a tight line, and scoring was difficult. Angus wisely decided on a restful afternoon with the League programme looming, and it was left to Alan Cuthbert to chisel out a fifty. Rob Smith made 22, and Paul 18, before Sav despatched eight boundaries in an unbeaten 40, as Wooburn finished on a respectable 152-8.
