Comfortable Win for Wooburn

Wooburn Narkovians 2nd XI started the league season with a comfortable 9 wicket victory over Chenies & Latimer 2nd XI, thanks to a second wicket stand of 109 between Angus Porter (67*) and Rob Smith (36*).



Put in on an easy paced pitch, Chenies’ batsmen struggled to score throughout their innings against accurate bowling. Moffit top-scored with a patient 43, but Chenies were thankful for some hard hit blows towards the end from Wenman and Edwards.



For Wooburn, with a number of senior bowlers unavailable, young Ben Sturgess took the new ball and finished with an excellent spell of 2-19. At the other end, in a marathon spell of medium pace, Dave Small restricted the scoring well to take 3-34. He was well supported by Paul Cuthbert (1-45), as Chenies eventually ended on just 124-6 from their 52 overs.



In reply, Wooburn lost Alan Cuthbert early on. Porter was then joined by Smith, and these two gradually took control against steady, but not particularly threatening bowling. Miller compensated for his lack of pace with some very loud appeals, but without success. The target was achieved with 11 overs still remaining.
