A fighting display by the 2nd XI ultimately ended in defeat at the hands of Chesham 2nds.



On winning the toss, with only 6 players at the ground, Angus didn\t have to think too hard before deciding to bat. So it was that Angus and Alan Cuthbert went out to face the Chesham bowlers on the greenest of greentops. Losing early wickets was not an option, and the circumstances contrived to inspire our men. An opening stand of 100, set up the possibility of a decent total, on a pitch made for seam bowling.



After Alan\s dismissal for 40, Angus and Derek Milsom continued the good work with a second wicket partnership of 56. Angus eventually went on to complete an excellent hundred, his third of an already prolific season, and the Wooburn innings ended on a highly respectable 185-3 off the full 52 overs.



Unfortunately, none of the regular 2nd XI seam bowlers were playing, and it was the improving Ben Sturgess and Paul Cuthbert who opened the attack. Chesham\s Brian Shipley immediately went after the bowling, applying the long handle to great effect. It wasn\t pretty, but he reached 50 in the 16th over before departing to a brilliant catch by Phil Clarke in the gully.



Chesham\s two Taylors then carried the score past the 100, before Keith Taylor drove Phil Clarke into the safe hands of Angus at mid off. Soon after, Phil ended the other Taylor\s innings (which included two attempted reverse sweeps) with another fine catch in the gully. There was to be no further joy for the Wooburn bowlers. Faisal and Pothecary carried Chesham home with just under three overs to spare.
