Disappointing draw despite Cooper career-best

A depleted Wooburn Narkovians 2nd XI dominated their match with Windsor 3rd XI, but were ultimately unable to force a win. Part-time off-spinner Paul Cooper produced career-best figures of 5-47, but the good batting conditions combined with Windor’s lack of ambition, contrived to produce a disappointing draw. 



On winning the toss, Wooburn opted to bat first and once again Angus Porter was in excellent form. After a cautious start, which saw only 60 runs scored from the first 26 overs, Porter increased the tempo, first in partnership with Derek Milsom (24) and then with Stuart Savage (47). He eventually fell for 95, his fifth score of 90 or more this season. Savage continued the onslaught, and Wooburn reached a challenging 219-6 from their 52 overs.



The Windsor reply also started slowly, despite Wooburn only having nine men in the field. They reached the halfway stage with just 53 runs on the board, Graham Dare and Paul Cooper keeping a tight rein on the scoring. Martin and Wigley tried to increase the scoring rate, but once Wigley fell to a fine catch by Porter on the long on boundary, Windsor settled for a draw. Martin ended on 55, while Cooper finished with 5-47 from 19 overs. Dare showed excellent stamina in a 17-over spell, and Ben Sturgess also bowled well.



The bonus points gained from the draw stretched Wooburn’s lead at the top of Division 5A to 15 points.
