A depleted 2nd XI crashed to an eight wicket defeat at Chalfont St. Peter after being bowled out for just 76. Stuart Savage\s unbeaten 40 gave the total an element of respectability, but it was never enough to stretch the home side. In the promotion season of 2000, Chalfont were put to the sword and defeated by 10 wickets, but this time the boot was on the other foot.
With all the regular senior batsmen either unavailable, injured or filling in for the 1st XI, the 2nds were always going to struggle. Ahmed was the chief destroyer with 5-42.
Chalfont, with 70 overs to get the runs, took their time. Mander stonewalled his way to 33, as they achieved their target for the loss of only two wickets in the 30th over.
With just a single point gained, thanks to taking two wickets, the 2nds are now just 6 points above the relegation zone thanks to Chesham\s 25-point victory. Without a win in the last 5 games, morale is in need of a boost. As in the 1st XI, improved availability is crucial if the 2nds are to avoid playing 3rd and 4th XI\s every week in Division 6A next season.
