Sam Togwell capped his first game for a year by picking up five wickets and sharing in the match-winning 31-run partnership as Wooburn Narkovians secured a three-wicket victory over Uxbridge 2nds on Sunday.



Togwell was instrumental in turning Uxbridge’s promising start of 113-2 into a disappointing 142 all out with his spell of 5-14 in five overs. The last six wickets fell for just seven runs.



Earlier Reely had made a fine 48 for the visitors before falling for Rowan Friend’s well-disguised slower ball. In fact, all Wooburn’s seven bowlers played their part in containing Uxbridge with what was probably the best bowling performance by the Sunday side this season.



In reply, the home side stuttered to 60-6 and their situation worsened when Rob Rogers had to retire hurt. But Wooburn still had plenty of overs remaining and in-form Dave Rogers, batting down the order, led the recovery, receiving good support firstly from Ben Sturgess and then from Togwell.



A stream of ones and twos got Wooburn close to victory without incurring too many risks. A final burst from opening bowler Connor, who took 4-57 from his 23 overs, failed to get Uxbridge a breakthrough despite a couple of confident appeals, and it was left to Rogers to hit the winning runs with seven balls to spare. He finished on 54, with Togwell’s contribution a vital 10.
