STUBBORN STOKE DENY WOOBURN
A stubborn stand by Stoke Green\s eight wicket pair denied Wooburn Narkovians 2nd XI a deserved victory in their Chiltern League match.
Wooburn batted first and were given a good start by the dramatic driving of Wake (27) and the aggression of Cooper (22) before both batsmen departed to easy catches. But runs flowed as the middle order attacked the bowling, with useful contributions from the energetic Purkiss (25), Waxman (9) and a half-century from Paul Cuthbert (58), enabling Wooburn to reach 189-8.
Stoke Green were soon in trouble following a venomous spell of unpredictable deliveries by Tim Waxman (4-19), ably assisted by the consistent Shaw (2-21). Morris (35) provided the only response to the Wooburn attack before being trapped by skipper Mayo. But none of the bowlers efforts could remove the unflappable Cordery, who batted throughout the 43 overs for 29 and earn Stoke Green a draw.
