COOPER IN THE HUNT AGAIN...

Paul Cooper took the lead in the Hunt and Nash batting stakes, scoring 134 not out for Wooburn Narkovians 2nd XI against Taplow in the Chiltern League. Cooper, who won an award last year after scoring 149, took advantage of a Taplow pitch that was a bowlers nightmare.



As Wooburn batted first, Cooper and Phil Lawless (73) went off at four an over, putting on 160 for the first wicket. The opening stand was almost faultless, and further acceleration came as Pidgeon (44 not out) joined Cooper to add a further 112 in an unbeaten second wicket partnership.



The Narks declared at 272-1 after just 43 overs, leaving the home side 47 overs to reach the formidable total.



Taplow needed a great start, and this was provided by Lark (73) and Bradley (69), with the latter producing his best knock to date. The pair put on 142 for the first wicket, and at one stage were cracking along at eight runs an over.



Spinner Harry Pidgeon slowed them down, conceding just 30 runs from his ten overs. Son Jason also bowled well, putting on the brakes and claiming vital wickets to break the opening stand.



With Lark and Bradley gone, Taplow began to struggle. The rate of six an over for the last 15 overs was made harder as wickets fell. It was finally left to Chris Lowe and Dave Thornley to hold out for a draw.
