Match Report

Tie is enough for Wooburn

Wooburn Narkovians 2nd XI clinched the Grasshopper Chiltern League title in exciting fashion on Saturday when Bledlow\s last wicket fell with the scores level. The points gained were enough to push the Narks above Richings Park.

With one game to go (against Kimble) Wooburn always looked favourites to overhaul Richings Park eventually, but to make sure in such dramatic fashion was obviously a big bonus.

This was especially so when defeat for Wooburn looked the most likely result after they had been dismissed for 131 and Bledlow were 101-3 in their reply, with Clark (27) and Johnson (60) going well.

But wickets fell steadily after this with Robin Evans (5-33) and Gary Mayo (3-22) bowling very well. Mayo clean bowled last man Walton with the scores level.

When Wooburn batted first, they lost both openers without scoring and struggled throughout against the bowling of Johnson (4-9) and Baker (3-52), and only fine knocks by Ted Sherlock (60) and Mayo (40) took them to 131 all out.
