Birdseye and Smith boost Narks
Wooburn Narkovians\ brave bid to get back into the hunt for the Chiltern League title by beating Chalfont St Giles at home was just thwarted on Saturday.
Wooburn dominated the game from the start on a perfect wicket and amassed 216-2 declared off just 44 overs. Geoff Anthony (49) got the side off to a brisk start and then there was a quiet period until Paul Birdseye (105*) joined Dave Smith (51*) at the wicket. They put on an unbeaten 148 for the third wicket in just 69 minutes.
Chalfont made a good attempt to chase the runs in 46 overs. Good contributions from Fowler (63) and Franks (45) helped them to stay on course but, in the end, the target proved too great and they finished hanging on at 177-9.
