A powerful innings of 65 from Tab Nawaz helped Wooburn to a solid six-wicket victory over bottom-placed Chesham. The win pushed the 2nds up to a lofty seventh in the table, calming fears of relegation for the time being. Tim Waxman\‘s marathon 26-over spell kept the target within reach, before Tab, well supported by Richie Barker, finished the job.



Put in on another damp pitch, Chesham started solidly against the accurate bowling of Waxman and Barker. Openers Shakoor and Shipley were forced to work hard in compiling an opening stand of 75, the scoring rate being kept well below three runs per over. Tab replaced Barker, and he struck first, removing both openers. Waxman finally got his reward in his sixteenth over, and began chipping his way through the middle order.



Seventeen year-old Raffety, showed good technique in making 21, otherwise Wooburn managed to keep a lid on the scoring rate. Pothecary and Wheeler eventually put bat to ball with some effect, and 37 were added in the last nine overs, Chesham closing on 159-7. Waxman ended with 4-60 and Tab 3-57.



Wooburn once again started badly against some testing bowling from Ladyman and the left-armer Wardman, finding themselves struggling on 19-2. Rob Smith dug in at one end, but at the other, after a quiet start, Tab unveiled his full range of shots hitting the ball sweetly all round the wicket. He eventually fell aiming to hit young seamer Adams over the top for 65. Barker now took over, ensuring there were no further slip-ups. He finished unbeaten on 40, as Wooburn got home with 20 balls to spare.
