A second successive defeat against relegation rivals, this time Stoke Green, has left the 2nd XI with a mountain to climb if they are to avoid the drop. A good performance in the field was undermined by some poor batting, Stuart Savage apart, and Wooburn finished 19 runs short of victory.



Put in on a good pitch, with a short boundary on one side, Stoke Green made a steady start with captain Javed Aziz making a chancy 35. Tim Waxman and Richard Barker again bowled well, keeping a tight reign on the run-scoring. It was only when Alexander came in that the tempo increased. He especially took a liking to Rob Rogers on his way to a quick 50. Barker bowled throughout taking 5-86 from 25 overs, and Stoke Green\‘s final total of 183 seemed well within reach.



The Wooburn innings again started badly. The score had reached 25 with no alarms when Alan Cuthbert was deceived by Sayed\‘s faster ball. Rob Smith quickly followed, and then Paul Cooper was bizarrely given run out even though the umpire had his back to him. A dismal start was complete when Tab holed out to leave the score standing at 37-4.



Savage and Barker now set about repairing the damage, adding 70 for the fifth wicket to put Wooburn back in the game. Vaja\‘s off-spin accounted for Barker, but Savage continued to strike the ball well on his way to 71. He was eventually ninth out at 152. Derek Milsom hit a couple of boundaries to give some hope, but Aslam\‘s pace proved too much for Harper. Another disappointing outcome for Wooburn in an important match.
