In a friendly against Wooburn Narkovians on Sunday, Taplow won the toss and skipper Will Midlane decided to bat. Midlane then proceeded to blast the ball to all parts of the ground, and ably assisted by Joel Holmes (19), the pair scored at eight an over until a disasterous mix-up left both batsmen at the same end, bringing an end to an excellent 80-run stand.



Andrew Mills was clean bowled three balls later by James White, who bowled a good line and length throughout. The run rate fell as the Wooburn bowling improved. However, with Dave Holland supporting Midlane, Taplow steadily built a good score. Midlane\s hundred came from just 117 balls. Holland (35) also began to open up, and the pair put on 106 runs, enabling Taplow to reach a good total of 228. Midlane declared with himself on 145.



Wooburn started well against the senior opening attack of David Thornley and Brian Wells, but Holland took a sharp catch at slip to dismiss Dave Rogers. This brought White to the crease, and he batted as well as he had bowled.



Wooburn were always a long way behind the required run rate though, and good all-round bowling and fielding by the home side was never going to allow Wooburn to threaten a win. Midlane finished off a superb personal day by giving himself a rare bowl for the last over, and took a wicket.
