Park Narked By Rivals



Wooburn Narkovians 2nd XI started the new season with an emphatic seven wicket victory over local rivals Marlow Park. An excellent all-round bowling effort dismissed Park for just 117, Wooburn achieving their target with plenty of time to spare.



At the start of the day, Wooburn captain, Phil Day, won the toss and put Park into bat. The hot sunny conditions and good pitch promised a good total, but Park struggled against the bowling of Tim Waxman and Day. The Wooburn pacemen reduced the home team to 55-6 before McKeown and Turner provided the only real resistance with a partnership of 58 for the seventh wicket. Turner eventually fell to a wild stroke against Richard Barker and Rob Rogers mopped up the tail. Day (3-9), Waxman (2-29) and Rogers (3-8) were the pick of a disciplined Wooburn attack.



Wooburn\‘s reply started badly when Rob Smith fell to an excellent slip catch by Coll without scoring. Richard Barker and Alan Cuthbert then survived some testing early overs from Turner and Weston. Gradually, the batsmen began to take control on what was still a good batting pitch. The second wicket pair had taken the score to 89 before Barker miscued a pull-drive and holed out to deep mid wicket. Paul Cuthbert joined his brother and struck three good boundaries before Atkinson deceived him with a well-flighted full toss. New boy, Jason Degelas, hammered the winning boundary, leaving Alan Cuthbert unbeaten on 66.
