Narks undermined by batting collapse

A fine hundred by Amersham\s Owen ultimately proved to be the difference between the teams in this pre-season friendly.



Heavy overnight rain had left the pitch soft and this, combined with a lush outfield, made it hard work for the batsmen. Mark Tennant and Jame White used the conditions well, and Amersham slumped to 25-3 before Owen arrived at the crease.



Viney\s patient effort ended when he offered a return catch to Andy Tennant, and thereafter the Narks made steady progress through the Amersham batting order. Only Owen offered serious resistance, and after reaching 50, he pushed on to an excellent century.



Mark Tennant finished with good figures of 3-24, while all the other bowlers chipped in. A final total of 176 though was going to be a challenge to the Wooburn batsmen.



So it proved. The early departure of Dave Rogers was followed by the best partnership of the match. James and Andy T. adding a patient 57 for the second wicket. Boundaries were difficult to come by once again, against some tight bowling, but the Wooburn pair grafted well.



Sadly, this encouraging start was wasted as the rest of the batting line up collapsed in a heap, only Gerry Tennant reaching double figures. For Amersham, Toates outswing brought him three wickets, while Moore also picked up three in a twelve over spell.



A disappointing batting performance after a good bowling effort earlier in the day. At least all the batsmen spent time at the crease, although we would hope they can stay out there a bit longer when the league season gets under way.
