Comfortable Start for 1st XI

The 1st XI began the new League season with a thumping 10 wicket win over a weakened Falkland 3rd XI.



Wooburn opted to field first in overcast conditions, and Mark Tennant was quickly into his stride against Falkland\s youthful line up, reducing the visitors to 34-4 after 13 overs. Dey was playing well when a heavy shower forced the players from the field.



On the resumption, Dey was immediately stumped off Rob Rogers, rashly charging down the pitch. The Wooburn spinner then put a complete break on run-scoring, conceding only 3 runs from 8 overs.



John White came into the attack, picking up a wicket, before the Robster finished things off. Falkland had managed just 75 all out, but in fairness they must have been missing quite a number of their regular team.



The Wooburn openers took the chance to spend some time in the middle, knocking off the runs with ease. Ian Cuthbert made his best score for nearly two seasons, and Dave Rogers looked as solid as ever. The only concern was the weather, with rain clouds threatening. Bolan bowled stradily for Falkland and looked a good prospect for the future.



This was clearly a good week to be playing Falkland, and we should expect a much tougher match when we travel to Newbury in two months time.
