The 1st XI found themselves outplayed and outcircled by the self-proclaimed Chiswick Sharks, and were forced to block out for a tame draw. Chasing 231 for victory, Wooburn started poorly and never really developed the momentum to threaten their target, finishing on 148-6.



Chiswick started well in hot condition, Frederick looking in superb form until he was bowled by Gerry off the inside edge. Badman, who rather enjoys his trips to Wooburn Park, and Piper both compiled half-centuries and Rushworth survived a couple of chances to hammer 66 late on. Frank White was the pick of the Wooburn bowlers, putting in a monumental spell of 26 overs, Gerry picked up a couple of wicket, while Smally provided steady support.



The Wooburn reply began badly, both openers gone with just 21 on the board. Frederick\s pace troubled the batsmen, and he was backed up by some excellent catching. Dave Pidge and Frank steadied the ship, but the loss of Pidge for 36 effectively ended any prospect of a run chase. A late flurry from Smally nearly claimed an extra batting point, but it was a disappointing performance overall.
