A comprehensive victory at last for the 1st XI after recent disappointments, in a game that was almost the complete reverse of the last time these two teams met.



Farnham Royal, who had topped the table two weeks ago, were looking to improve on a disasterous performance at Falkland, and opted to bat first. They struggled early on as the damp pitch offered the bowlers encouragement. Both openers fell cheaply, Pulsford to an excellent catch by Smally at second slip. Frank White\s disciplined line of attack frustrated the middle order, and Farnham were in some trouble at 110-6. Potts proceeded to thrash his maiden 50, and dragged the total up to a competitive 224. Frank finished with a well deserved five-fer.



With the pitch now drying out, Farnham\s bowlers found it tougher going. Attacking fields contributed to a fast start, Ian Cuthbert despatching four successive boundaries off Deans. Ian was then unluckily given out, his rattling helmet being taken for a nick by the umpire. One for the excuses round, perhaps?



Frank White joined Paul Cooper in a century stand for the second wicket, as Wooburn kept pace with the required rate. Farnham victory hopes disappeared on the now docile pitch, and they concentrated on keeping the runs down, but to little effect. Coops departure for a well pacesd 83, only hastened the victory charge as Pidge rapidly tied things up with a quickfire 30.
