Match Report

With Pidge missing, James won an important toss and elected to field first against ICI Paints at Wooburn park. Mark Tennant had pulled his groin playing football the previous Wednesday and so was consigned to gully all day and Wooburn were robbed of their most dangerous bowler. With Dave Rogers missing through injury, Coops donned the gloves for the first time in 3 years.

Smally opened up and once he found a fuller length he had both Kayani and Khan caught behind by Coops. Arbi continued to live dangerously, scoring most of his 47 runs backward of square in the air before Smally caught him in the covers off of the returning Richie Barker. James bowled tightly and ICI struggled to hit many boundaries. The introduction of Robbie Rogers, with Richie bowling at the other end bought a steady flow of wickets, and some good catches, notably from young Andy Johnson saw the pair share 7 wickets as ICI struggled to 178-9 off of their 52 overs.

Wooburn\s reply started awfully as Urdi Verma bowled with his usual accuracy and movement from one end and Khan charged in from the other with Coops nicking one behind off of Khan in the second over and James edging one to the slips in the third over. Andy Tennant took a liking to the pace of Khan and was sever on anyting short as he and Ian Cuthbert started to build a partnership. Ian then tried an expansive drive off of Verma and missed, comprehensively bowled. Richard Harman joined Andy and started well, with a great drive for 4. He soon fell to the pace of Khan, edging one to the keeper. Wooburn were now rocking on 47-4 with Andy Johnson joining the impressive Andy Tennant. In a superb unbeaten partnership of 132 they guided Wooburn to victory with both Andy\s never looking in any trouble. Andy Tennant scored the bulk of the runs, but Andy Johnson\s contribution was just as crucial, and he played with a maturity well beyond his 16 years.

Andy Tennant reached a well deserved century when he hit the winning runs and Wooburn completed their second 20 point win in succession as they look to close the gap on the leading teams.
