Tempers fray at Bagshot

Wooburn 1st Xi crashed to an unlikely defeat at Bagshot, and lost valuable ground in the league by only picking up 6 points.



Wooburn won the toss and went in search of their third successive 20 point win by electing to field first.  The Bagshot innings got off to a bad start when James White ran out Bushell in the 5th over with a superb direct hit from the fine leg boundary.  Dawson and Cawsley then started to score quickly with some aggresive stroke play.  However, they struggled to score off of James and instead went after Smally and Robbie Rogers.  Dawson let his frustration get the better of him as he was bowled by James for 33.  After James had completed 18 overs he had the extraordinary figures of 1-17, including 10 maidens! 



Cawsley contiuned to hit across the line and after Robbie bowled Hollely, the aggressive and abusive Berridge hit some big boundaries before skying to Pidge off of James\ bowling.  Balcombe came in and nudged the ball cleverly around before being run out and Cawsley finished the innings agonisingly on 99 not out as Bagshot scored 193-5 - a score that Wooburn were happy with and felt was well within their capabilities of getting in 48 overs.



Wooburn\s reply started shakily with Dave Rogers getting a ball lift on him from Berridge and gloving to gully.  Ian Cuthbert and last weeks hero Andy Tennant made batting on the popping pitch look comfortable in adding 52 before burly Burridge once again got one to lift and catch Ian\s glove.  Andy Johnson wandered across his stumps to be bowled around his legs second ball.  James White did well to survive his first 3 balls with the ball darting around all over the place before he looped one to square leg off of Budd.

Pidge now joined Andy Tennant and both batsmen scored freely, especially off of Burridge\s short bowling.



With tempers rising and Burridge in particular dishing out constant verbal abuse, Pidge mistimed a drive off of Berridge and was caught at point.  Rob Smith making a rare appearance looked as if he had never been away as he dealt with everything, including Berridge\s verbals and scored quickly before Berridge bowled him with a slower ball that turned.



WIth the score now on 142-6 and 10 overs remaining, Smally joined Andy Tennant who had moved well beyond 50 and was looking comfortable.  Both batsmen scored quickly and hit boundaries and added 29 runs in 4 overs beofre Andy Tennant tried to smack Berridge back over his head and was bowled.  Bagshot were now really fired up and the scoring rate slowed dramatically.  Smally tried to drive Berridge and edged one to the slips before Briggsy stumbled out of his crease and was stumped.  Andy White, making his first appearance in a long while, tried to survive the remaining few balls, but with his hand injured whilst fielding he struggled to hold his bat and was subsequently bowled to spark wild celebrations by Bagshot and leaving Wooburn demoralised, but determined to bounce back straight away next week at Falkland.
