Victory Set-up By Smith & Sharma

Wooburn Narkovians 2nd XI extended their lead at the top of TVL Div 6A with a 48 run victory over Harefield 3rd\s.

With a number of regulars missing, Harefield invited Wooburn to bat first on a very green wicket somewhat similar to the bowling green nearby. Harefield did have star seamer Hall and a number of promising colts at stand-in skipper Jagger\s disposal, so it looked a good decision as the early overs produced exagerated seam and swing movement.

Angus Porter was the first wicket to fall with a full-blooded drive to deep-point, but this was the only early success for Harefield as the experienced pair of Derek Milsom and Rob Smith carefully negotiated the difficult batting conditions. Smith in particular punishing any lose deliveries.

Without a wicket for Hall and the Wooburn batsmen looking set, Jagger rang the changes and it was eventually the skipper himself who accounted for Milsom (42) with the score at 126 from 32 overs.

Wooburn then quickly lost Savage LBW, also to Jagger, and a large total now looked in doubt.

Mani Sharma then strode to the crease and, with Smith, took the fight to Harefield. Sharma was particulary punishing on the Harefield attack and quickly completed a thrilling half-century. Smith, now playing the anchor role, also continued to keep the scoreboard moving and soon completed a fine century.

With overs running out, Jagger eventually recalled Hall who removed Sharma (53) and Smith (101) as Wooburn looked to declare early. The declaration soon came at 253-7 from 50 overs.

Despite the helpful seam bowling conditions, Wooburn opened with the spin-twins Rogers and Harper. This soon proved a wise decision as Harper reduced Harefield to 40-2. However, runs were coming quickly so the new ball was taken with Graham Dare and Wahleed Hussain spearheading the attack.

Harefield continued bat possitively, but without anyone willing to anchor the innings wickets began to fall at regular intervals with Dare, Rogers and Dave Jordan all enjoying success.

The end came with Angus Porter stumping Day from Rogers flighted delivery to complete a good victory for the Narks.
