Wooburn 2nd XI Crash To First League Defeat

Wooburn\s 2nd XI TVL Div 6A visit to Odiham & Greywell 2nd XI ended in a 92 run defeat despite a dogged 52 from Rob Smith.

With Captain Savage, Andy Cowan and Jack Porter stuck in the car park (M25)it was left to the remaining eight to take to the field once the toss was, once again, lost.

Paceman Danish Shah opened and was unlucky not to take an early wicket as the Odiham batsmen tried to come to terms with his pace. Slow bowler, Peter Harper, opened the other end due to the strong head-wind and slope.

Odiham\s opener, Came, looked in good form and it was a relief when the missing 3 finally arrived.

With a full compliment, Wooburn began to get back into the game with Harper bowling an uncomforable looking Edmunds(19) and quickly taking the second wicket of Clarke(6).

Imran Isaq had replaced Danish and bowled a tight spell resulting in the all important wicket of Came(42). Wooburn now looked in control, but sensible batting from Steven (41), Jeffs (25), Woodward (28) and a quickfire 38 from Schooling gave Odiham a decent 236-7 at the close.

This was a good effort by all the Wooburn fielding team on a small ground and fast outfield.

Wooburn\s innings started well. Rob Smith and Derek Milsom opening partnership was developing well until Milsom (33) was dismissed by the left-arm medium pace of Steven with the score at 64. Odiham had now introduced the slow-bowling of Came which was proving difficult to score from.

From a good start, Wooburn were soon in trouble as a number of wickets fell quickly with many of the Wooburn batsmen unable to build an innings. The exception, Rob Smith, finally falling to Came for a hard fought(51). Graham Milsom also showed good determination and when joined by Peter Harper it seemed defeat might be avoided, but Milsom (10) fell to an excellent catch by Came from Steven\s bowling. Wooburn\s innings finally ending at 145 with Came taking a well deserved 5-42.

This was always going to be a difficult week and a big \thank-you\ for all those who have put themselves out to ensure we fulfilled the fixture.
