Match Report

Paine & Lees bring Wooburn Victory

Due to the fact that the Harrow skipper felt his side was unusually weak, it was decided Wooburn should bat first meaning that Matt Curtis standing in for the absent Skipper and run machine Paul Cooper was for once unable to lose the toss. Mark (Gerry) Tennant fresh from yesterdays bowling heroics volunteered to open with the ever improving Tom Lees. After a bright start Gerry was bowled missing a straight one. Chris Hall full of confidence immediately set about the Harrow bowling putting on 51 with Lees until he was caught and bowled for 31. After a brief visit from Matt Curtis George Taylor joined Tom at the crease where, he was steadily compiling his second successive chanceless Sunday fifty. Harrow quickly employed some unusual field settings to stifle George’s natural shots. As a result George found it hard to pierce the field, playing and missing with regularity he eventually bypassed everyone with one of his trademark sixes. Tom finally fell for 57 and was replaced by Richie Barker who along with George continued to push up the total. George was bowled trying to launch young Ben Barker who was filling in for Harrow and was quickly followed by Luke Carter. Dove Jordan looked to be cruising when he was unfortunately run out of a Barker drive via the bowlers attempted catch. The Harrow bowlers stuck tirelessly to their task with Brice the pick returning 2 for 52 off 15 overs. Young Bens confrontation with his veteran father only wet the appetite for later on. On Richie’s dismissal the Narks declared for a respectable 197 for 8 off 46 overs.

Harrows reply started solidly with skipper Laxton setting out his stall and Clarkson playing some sweet drives whilst under pressure from some hostile and accurate bowling from Dove Jordan, who was unlucky for a second time in the match in failing to take a wicket, and in particular Ally Paine who made the breakthrough having Clarkson safely caught by Barker for 31. Baron joined Laxton in offering stout resistance until Matt Paine bowling in tandem with his elder brother bowled the Harrow skipper with a beauty. James Brant added to his good catch by removing Baron in a nice tidy spell whilst Ally Paine continued his wonderful spell bowling with real pace and venom and finishing with 3 for 28 of 13 overs hardly did his efforts justice. Luke Carter made up for his duck by taking 2 wickets and was the pick of the fielders taking a fine running catch. The steady flow of wickets including a direct hit from Gerry brought young Ben Barker to the crease to renew hostilities with his dad. Having nonchalantly pulled senior through midwicket, junior forced the removal of senior from the attack to save him from further punishment. Tennant then matched his scintillating form from the previous day (when he took 4 wickets in 4 balls) wrapping up the match with a snorter of a lifter to bowl ELEVEN year old Ben Barker.
