QADEER LEADS THE WAY WITH 7 WICKETS



Wooburn Narkovians 2nd XI achieved their first win in the Thames Valley League this season, defeating a very poor Teddington Town side by 9 wickets. Wooburn were indebted to the bowling of Qadeer (7-21) and Jason Degelas (3-40) as Teddington Town were routed for just 63. Dave Rogers and Richard Barker then knocked off the runs with relative ease.



Put into bat on a soft slow pitch, Teddington struggled from the start. Qadeer found his length early on, and the pace of Degelas was always dangerous. The slowness of the pitch made run scoring difficult, and both openers fell trying to force the pace. Wickets then fell at regular intervals, mainly to Qadeer. Harris briefly threatened to wrest the initiative, and Barrett connected with some lusty swings of the bat, but a final total of 63 amounted to a pretty poor effort by the home side. Qadeer finished with seven wickets, and Degelas three, though it could easily have been the other way around. The Wooburn fielding was excellent throughout, all catches being held. Rob Rogers\’ smart catch in the gully to dismiss Boothman, and Stuart Savage\‘s one-handed poach to remove Courtney were the pick.



Earl opened the bowling for Teddington Town with his first over for seven years. It showed. His first three deliveries nearly landed on his toes. He did get better, but was always likely to bowl the odd bad ball. Barrett, at the other end, was steady, bowling gentle outswingers. He took the only Wooburn wicket to fall, when Alan Cuthbert half-heartedly pulled a short ball straight to backward square leg. Richard Barker carried on where he left off against ICI, driving the ball superbly. Dave Rogers took the opportunity of spending valuable time in the middle, reaching 32 before the target was reached. A crushing victory for Wooburn, but a somewhat unsatisfactory match.
