Stop Press! Jugs all round!! Matt Curtis wins a toss!!!

Winning the toss, Wooburn batted first opening up with Robbie Rogers and Aaron Shearer. After Aaron was unfortunately caught in the gully in the fourth over Robbie started to open his shoulders and score freely until he too was unfortunate and was bowled by one that stayed low. James White batting at three was briefly visited by George Taylor. Somehow Matt Curtis managed to stay with James for a few overs and rather bizarrely they managed a stand of 33, Matt’s contribution being 6!



James now began to look more comfortable as in Richie Barker he actually had a batsman at the other end. When James eventually fell for a hard working 35 Richie was joined by young all-rounder Tom Lees. Boyne Hill’s Cousins (2 for 14 off 8 overs) was now bowling a fine spell, continuously getting bounce and going past the outside edge. Both Richie (55) and Tom (41) dug in deep on a difficult pitch to see him off and cash in with a quite superb stand of 102.Wooburn declared at 205 off 44 overs.



Boyne Hill’s reply started at a pace with Cousin’s especially taking advantage of some wayward Wooburn bowling. However Ally Paine yet again proved what a fine bowler he is by removing the rampaging Cousins via a sharp George Taylor gully catch. With the score on 55 from the first 9 overs the Hill were well on their way towards the target. Opener Rafi kept picking up runs and Singh scored freely at the other end taking the score past 100 before James White had Singh well taken by Aaron Shearer at midwicket.



Russell Dale replaced Ally from the river end and having just run out Pereira with a terrific throw promptly removed Rafi LBW for a good 36. This was the start of a period when the match became a touch surreal with an inexperienced and somewhat eccentric umpire being guided in his decision making by Richie from square leg. This was followed later by a visit from a White Lightning fuelled, foul mouthed Tom Cruise look-alike teenager looking for his F14. Meanwhile James had tied up one end with his off spin and Tom Lees had started his devastating spell at the river end.



Boyne Hill continuing to attack with the target still in sight were undone by the ever accurate Lees having the dangerous looking Arif caught on the long leg boundary with a steepling Matt Paine catch. He then clean bowled two in two balls and eventually finished with 4 for 14 off 6 overs. James wrapped up a very enjoyable match where everyone contributed in the penultimate over with figures of 3 for 27 off 12.1 overs, bringing the comment of the day from young Tom… “b******* stopped me getting five!”
