Wooburn Narkovians 1st X1 stormed to the top of the league on Saturday with a 25 point win over Chalfont St Peter.

After winning the toss, Wooburn skipper Dave Small decided to bat first, despite prolific wicket taker Mark Tennant having to leave early.  Tom Lees and Angus Porter got the innings off to a solid start against some testing bowling with Porter just getting into his stride before falling to an inswinger yorker from Waqas for 19.  Lees was looking solid and playing some fine shots, but unfortunatley kept finding the fielders.  With frustration getting the better of him, Lees was bolwed by the accurate Javed when trying to force the pace.

James White was now joined by Mark Tennant, and James continued where he left off last week, looking in imperious form.  Mark got a leading edge off Waqas to fall for a duck and Ian Cuthbert struck two glorious boundaries before hammering one straight to mid off to give Waqas his third wicket.

With Wooburn at 84-4, Chalfont now had their tails up and were looking to run through Wooburn\s middle order.  Dave Pidgeon and James White had other ideas and the pair produced a batting masterclass, rotating the strike and hitting 17 boundaries between them to enable skipper Dave Small to declare early on 233-4.  James White finishing with a majestic unbeaten 90 and Dave Pidgeon an equally fine 61 not out.

Chalfont\s innings got off to the worst possible start when Mark Tennant destroyed White\s stumps in the first over.  Patel was next in and the talented batsmen was keen to play his shots.  The introduction of Richie Barker proved crucial as he had opener Kyani caught behind for 15 to leave Chalfont on 44-2.

This brought the big hitting Javed to the crease and after numerous lusty blows, Barker once again found a way through.  Chalfont captain Ishaq was next to fall as he played on in Mark Tennant\s final over before having to leave.

14 year old Angus “The Goose” Lees was making his league debut and his first ball ripped away from Patel catching the outside edge only to be dropped behind the stumps.  This was a sign of things to come, with Lees continuing to bowl superb off spin, and despite disappearing for a couple of huge sixes, he continued to beat the batsmen all ends up.

Richie Barker bowled Punj and the dangerous Patel for 47 in quick succesion to finish with 4 wickets in a superb spell of seam bowling and it was now down to spin twins Lees and James White to take the remaining 4 wickets.

Chalfont continued to play their shots as they chased down the 234 run target and needed 100 runs with 18 overs remaining.  Chaudrey and Aslam in particular continued to strike numerous boundaries, before Chaudrey was cuaght by a tumbling Dave Small in the deep.

Lees was contuing to look dangerous, but it was White who picked up the next two wickets, both caught by Dave Pidgeon at long off.

With one wicket needed and only 4 overs remaining, it was Angus Lees who produced the magic neeeded as he found the outside edge of Taved\s bat and Porter took a fine one handed catch behind the stumps.  Aslam remained unbeaten at the other end with an excellent 49, and Wooburn won by 49 runs and claimed 25 points for the first time this season in a highly enjoyable match for all involved.
