Match Report

Wooburn Narkovians 1st X1 kicked off the 2008 league season in glorious conditions at Windsor on Saturday.

After losing the toss Wooburn were put into bat on a decent track and lightning outfield.  Dave Rogers (60) and Andy Tennant got Wooburn off to a flying start punishing anything remotely short or wide.  After Tennant fell, Wooburn found themselves on 100-1 off 20 overs with James White (23) joining Rogers and looking in sensational form before being trapped lbw.

Harris & Davis were introduced by Windsor captain Huggins in an attempt to stop the flow of runs and they succeeded in doing so bowling very tightly in tandem.

Rogers & Dave Pidgeon formed a much needed solid partnership to take Wooburn to 140-3 before Davis claimed three quick wickets and suddenly Wooburn were struggling to get to the 200 mark after targetting a score of 250 earlier on in the innings.

Some important contributions from Richie Barker (15) and skipper Dave Small towards the end enabled Wooburn to get to 193 all out, which Wooburn considered to be a below par score.

Davis\ accurate 18 over spell finished with figures of 6-40.

Wooburn knew they had to bowl and field exceptionally well to have any chance of saving the game and the opening bowling spell between Mark Tennant and Dave Small was just what was required.

Small took two early wickets including the scalp of Windsor captain, Paul Huggins and Windsor found themselevs at 20-2 off 10 overs.

Both Gregory and Hartridge couldn\t handle the pace of Tennant having their middle stumps removed.  With Windsor on 60-4 but still over 25 overs remaining any result was possible.

However, Windsor had other ideas and decided against taking any further risks.  There was still time for Richie Barker\s excellent spell to get the wicket he deserved with Mo Aslam taking an outstanding one handed, diving slip catch.

George & Malik played out 15 more overs without too many problems before Aslam\s leg spin regularly beat the bat without much luck.

Phil Clarke trapped George lbw for 31 just before the close as Windsor struggled to 126-7 off of their 48 overs.

Wooburn Narkovians finished with 11 points, and Windsor 7.
