Wooburn Narkovians 1sts’ Mark Tennant picked up an impressive five-wicket haul, including a hat-trick, to set up a comfortable seven-wicket win for his side against Chalfont St Peter 2nds in their Thames Valley League encounter at Wooburn Park on Saturday.



A delayed start due to light rain meant that the match was reduced by 10 overs in total, but an excellent Wooburn bowling performance meant that the lost time had no impact on the match. Taking full advantage of the humid conditions, Tennant (5-31) and opening partner James White (2-20) had early success as Chalfont’s batsmen struggled to cope with the swinging ball. After 14 overs, the top three were back in the pavilion with just 23 runs on the scoreboard.



An over later, the board read 23-6, as Tennant wrecked the visitors’ middle order by bowling Ahmed and Paswal and trapping Panayiotou lbw not playing a shot with consecutive deliveries. Another victim for Tennant and a needless run out added to Chalfont’s woes, before Ali and Ishaq put together the visitors’ biggest partnership of the day, 39 runs. However, Richie Barker (2-22) picked up two wickets in two balls to end the innings with Chalfont having made just 90.



In reply, Wooburn didn’t have things all their own way, but twenties from Dave Pidgeon, Tom Lees and debutant Humphrey Rose allowed them to reach their target in the 26th over with seven wickets to spare.
