BARKER BLOWS ROYALS AWAY



Wooburn Narkovians 2nds maintained their good start to the season with a 10-wicket demolition of a hapless Royal Ascot.



Royal Ascot, with three wins under their belt already this season, struggled from the first ball in conditions that were seemingly perfect for batting. With the sun beating down on a hard flat wicket, Phil Day charged down the hill and proved a real handful for the batsmen. He produced the perfect yorker for Lilley, before bowling Parsley off the inside edge. He then took the important wicket of King, when the batsman was hit on the front pad only half forward.



Richard Barker replaced Day, who had suffered another slight muscle injury, and the Yorkshireman immediately sent Wiggett on his way with a fine one-handed catch off his own bowling. Rees, Short and Sheeran then departed to a series of horrible shots, before Allen found some support from the youngster May. These two provided the best batting of the innings before Allen sliced Qadeer to Day in the gully. Hedges and May then added another 19 for the last wicket, the innings closing when Hedges holed out to Rob Rogers at cover.



Wooburn openers Dave Rogers and Alan Cuthbert faced a testing opening spell from Mike Allen, Cuthbert surviving a chance to cover early on, while one or two nipped back off the seam. But once that initial spell was over it became a stroll to victory, the winning runs scored with more than 50 overs of the match remaining, Cuthbert finishing on 48.
