DEPLETED ATTACK IS MADE TO SUFFER



On Saturday North Maids travelled to local rivals Wooburn Narkovians and lost by 5 wickets with 11 deliveries remaining. After having been asked to bat first, North Maids compiled a good 220-5. However, against a severely weakened bowling attack, the home side chased well and three half-century makers saw them to a win that moves them to second in the Thames Valley Division 5.



After the early loss of Peachey, Martin Porter (35) aggressively took the attack to the bowlers. In-form duo Steve Duncombe (77) and Simon Foster (55) then added 135 in 32 overs with some excellent stroke-play all around the ground. Both were out in the same over, but momentum was maintained by Tom Hodgson (12) and Graeme Copas (19), and with 25 coming from the last 2 overs, the score of 220-5 declared from 51 overs looked a decent one.



Although the Wooburn reply was always slightly behind the run rate, the kept precious wickets in hand, ready for a final dart at the bowling. The plan worked well. The hard-hitting Tab Nawaz (52), Jason Degelas (50) and Richard Barker (62 no) upped the tempo and scored the last 100 off 15 overs, mostly through well-placed strikes to the legside boundary. However, two vital dropped catches off successive deliveries from Gary Church were to prove crucial. The North Maids bowling saw Peachey take two wickets, and Harrison bowl a marathon 19 over spell.
