The U15s finally took the field and enjoyed a winning start to the season, with a comfortable seven wicket victory over Gerrards Cross ‘B’. The match was effectively decided by Will Cuthbert’s opening spell of 4-11, which reduced Cross to 16-6. The home team eventually struggled to 40 all out, which Wooburn knocked off with 8 overs to spare.
Wooburn chose to field on winning the toss, and the first over gave little indication of the carnage to come, as the batsmen took 9 from it, including a six over mid wicket/cow corner. However, it was all downhill from here for the home team as a succession of poor shots brought about their downfall. Will’s next two overs produced two wickets in each, and with John Henry Kelly taking a wicket in his second and third overs, Gerrards Cross were effectively beaten at 16-6 from 6 overs. Tom Wright then got into the act with a wicket in his second over, and a run out left Cross 21-8. A recovery of sorts followed, a partnership of 13 helping to take the final total up to 40 all out in the 15th over.
In reply, Wooburn switched around the batting order to involve everyone in the game, but Ollie Nicol and Alfie Kempston failed to take the opportunity, departing early to leave the Narks on 5-2. Ali Dalton and Mike Levy added 20 for the 3rd wicket, before Ali was bowled, leaving Mike (15*) and Matt Hoddell (9*) to complete the win with nearly 8 overs remaining.
