I.C.I. PAINTS BRUSHED ASIDE BY CZAKAN



Wooburn Narkovians 2nd XI continued their excellent run with an easy 116 run win over ICI Paints 2nds at Wexham in their Thames Valley League Division 3 encounter on Saturday.



Wooburn were put in and got off to a solid start through Rob Smith and Dave Rogers playing particularly well. The loss of three quick wickets, however, put ICI in control and Rogers and Andy Tennant were forced to consolidate against the accurate ICI attack. Rogers went on to make a fine 67, continuing his superb form this season, but his dismissal was quickly followed by that of Matt Cyster and Steve Nower, leaving skipper Matt Curtis and Phil Day to consolidate once again. Over the final few overs Day (38 not out) cut loose, hammering the ball to all parts, and Wooburn ended with a highly respectable total of 205, although this was some way short of early expectations.



Kevin Czakan and Day opened the Wooburn attack and they initially found the breakthrough hard to come by. The ICI openers mixed stout defence with big leg-side hits and managed to keep in touch with the run rate, but Day finally took the first wicket, bowling Robinson with a yorker. This opened the floodgates, and of the remaining ICI batsmen only Butt offered any real resistance. Day\s accuracy and subtle changes of pace provided the perfect foil for Czakan\s speed and hostility and the pair proved too much for ICI as they subsided to 89 all out. Czakan picked up 5-45 and Day 3-35 as Wooburn collected maximum points to maintain their challenge at the top of the table.
