WOOBURN\S RUN ENDED BY SIDHU



Wooburn Narkovians 2nd XI\s good run in Thames Valley League Division 3 came to an abrupt end, with a comprehensive defeat at the hands of a resurgent Burnham.



After losing the toss once again, Wooburn found themselves put into bat. The wicket offered the bowlers some help in the early stages, and Burnham\s new ball pairing exploited it well with Rob Smith going early and Dave Rogers folowing soon after. The promising Andy Tennant played well for his 33, before he lost patience against Khan and holed out to wide mid off, while at the other end acting captain Alan Cuthbert began to take root.



Cuthbert (94) held the Wooburn innings together in elegant fashion before falling hooking at the penultimate ball of the innings. At the other end, wickets fell regularly until Chris Sullivan (21 not out) helped Cuthbert add 56 in the last few overs. The total was held in check by Charlie Stevens, who took 5-67, while Balbir Sidhu gave a faultless display of wicket-keeping.



Burnham set about the task with few alarms as Sidhu made light of the early dismissal of his opening partner Ahmed (14). Sidhu followed up his ton at Taplow the previous week with another good innings, making a fine 91, and he was given good support by skipper Tim King who battled his way to 48. The pair put Burnham on course for victory. When they both fell, Mohammed Asif weighed in with an unbeaten 31 to guide them home, despite the unflagging efforts of Phil Day, who picked up a century of the unwanted kind.
