Wooburn Narkovians 2nd XI returned to winning ways in Thames Valley League Division 3, with an easy 10 wicket victory over struggling Bagshot on Saturday. With several regulars missing, Bagshot were no match for high-flying Wooburn, and they remain firmly rooted to the foot of the table.



Batting first on a good wicket, with a lightening outfield, Bagshot succumbed to a series of atrocious shots and poor running between the wickets. Only skipper Lewis, with a patient 43, put up any real resistance. The luckless Kevin Czakan was the pick of the Wooburn bowlers, despite taking just one wicket. He beat the bat on numerous occasions, had two difficult chances dropped in the slips, and had Lewis caught in the gully off a no-ball. It was not to be his day.



The wickets tumbled to Phil Day at the other end. Bravely defying the pain of a blistered foot, the big man bagged another five-wicket haul. A couple of suicidal run outs, and two wickets for Jeff Morris, wrapped it up for Wooburn, as Bagshot subsided for just 82.



In the ten overs before tea, Wooburn comfortably reached 39 without loss, as Bagshot\s bowling proved to be not much better than their batting. After tea, openers Rob Smith and Dave Rogers had no problems in taking the score to 75 when, with just 8 runs needed, Wooburn skipper Matt Curtis ordered a bizarre drinks break. Soon after, a fully refreshed Rogers hit the winning boundary as Wooburn coasted home.
