OPENERS SET UP 10 WICKET WIN



Wooburn Narkovians comfortably defeated Chalfont St. Peter 2nds by 10 wickets on Saturday to maintain their promotion drive in Thames Valley Division 5. Good disciplined bowling, particularly from Tim Waxman and Jason Degelas, restricted the home side to just 128, which Wooburn\‘s openers knocked off with aplomb.



Chalfont\‘s innings started brightly, with Gooch in excellent form. He despatched a number of half-volleys through the covers before inexplicably edging Dave Small to first slip. Braithwaite struggled, particularly against Waxman, and was snapped up round the corner. Small then picked up the wicket of Mander, as the batsman moved too far across his stumps, and Waxman frustrated Gamble into a loose drive. Jason Degelas soon hit Lovelace\‘s off stump. Peace and Peters resisted stoutly for a while, but when they were out Chalfont quickly folded.



When Wooburn batted, Alan Cuthbert hit the first ball of the innings hard at gully, but the catch went down. It proved to be a costly miss. Batting was difficult for a time, with Pearce and Gamble both getting some assistance from the pitch. The batsman managed to keep the score moving with some excellent running between the wickets, punctuated by the occasional boundary. Eventually they took control, especially when the change bowlers came on, and led Wooburn to a fine victory.
