The U15s travelled to Ley Hill for a game that was played almost entirely in rain. It was only abandoned when Ley Hill\s seniors turned up for their game and insisted their pitch must be covered as they had an \important\ league match in the afternoon. I suspect it was no more important than our game in the Bucks Cricket Board U15 South Division 2.



Anyhow, at the point of abandonment, the match was in the balance. Wooburn had posted 139-4 from their 20 overs, thanks largely to Ben Cooper and Matt O\Regan\s century opening partnership, both boys making fifties. Skipper Niall Dearsley also added a quickfire 16, testing the local rule by landing two on the road, before chesting the ball down in front of middle stump to be out leg before wicket.



In reply, Ley Hill\s openers smashed it, but our boys did have to bowl with a bar of soap, whilst slipping and sliding in the popping crease. Fielding in the steady drizzle wasn\t easy either, but there were some marvellous sliding tackles in the deep, one from James Houghton was particularly noteworthy, saving two runs in the process.



After the early onslaught, Wooburn did manage to take a few wickets through Dan Broughton (3-11), and at 92-4 after 11, it was getting interesting - it looked as though the tail had been reached. At which point, the Ley Hill Sunday 1st XI skipper made his intervention. Credit to the Wooburn team who were desperate to finish the match, despite the terrible conditions and regular attempts by the umpires to escape to the pavilion.
