CUTHBERT SENDS ICI CRASHING TO NINE WICKET DEFEAT



Wooburn Narkovians dealt I.C.I. a crushing blow in the Thames Valley League with an emphatic nine wicket victory. An extremely disciplined display in the field, was followed by some excellent batting from Wooburn\s top order, particularly Ian Cuthbert who finished unbeaten on 91.



Fielding a strong side, Wooburn won the toss and inserted I.C.I. who got off to a good start. Phil Cuthbert bowled with pace and deserved better than just the wicket of Ian Rance, thanks to a stunning catch by Phil Lawless. With no apparent breakthrough coming, the openers were replaced with Cuthbert brothers Paul and Ian.



Ian bowled a steady line and with the support of the crowd took vital wickets. Webb took a shine to Paul Cuthbert\s bowling and quickly plundered his way to 45 before holing out to Chivers in the deep. Sullivan held up one end in place of the unfortunate Cuthbert and bowled 21 overs for four wickets. A good, tight fielding performance limited ICI to 195 from 52 overs on what could only be described as a good cricket wicket.



From the first ICI delivery, which Lawless bludgeoned for four through cover point, it all looked too easy. Lawless eventually perished to a catch in the deep off Finn for 60 from 64 balls. Cooper held one end together while Ian Cuthbert accelerated the rate to give himself 91 not out and Wooburn an easy victory.
