BURNHAM ARE DEALT A SAVAGE BLOW



A magnificent unbeaten 95 by Wooburn Narkovians batsman Stuart Savage was the highlight of Wooburn\s high-scoring draw with local rivals Burnham on Saturday. Savage\s contribution could prove crucial at the end of the season, with both sides battling hard for promotion from Division 3 of the Thames Valley League.



Wooburn, currently just behind the pace in the division, entertained the second placed side knowing that a draw was needed to maintain thier promotion charge. But they soon realised the draw was the realistic target, as Burnham, batting first, amassed the huge total of 273 all out. The visitors made a steady start, with all the top order making useful contributions, led by an excellent 57 by Sarj Khan.



Shabaz Ramzan (25) and Habib Khan (38) made good progress against the Wooburn attack, but the best was yet to come as Babar Ramzan compiled 80 before falling to an Evans catch off the bowling of Paul Sullivan. M.Asif added 26 to send Burnham on their way to an outstanding score, which saw all the Wooburn bowlers suffer expensive spells. Phil Cuthbert took 4-70, while Burnham\s batsmen allowed their hosts just two maidens as Sullivan (2-85) and Morris (2-77) were made to suffer. Savage helped Wooburn\s cause with three catches.



In reply, Wooburn looked to be heading for a heavy defeat as three wickets fell cheaply to some accurate bowling from Aubrey Bryan (3-40). But the innings was steadied by Alan Cuthbert (61) and Savage who, with the helped of Morris (36), secured the home side a share of the spoils in this important clash, with a superb knock.
