LEADERS ROCKED BY WOOBURN



In a very good all-round performance, Wooburn Narkovians sent leaders Falkland to only their second defeat of the Thames Valley League season on Saturday.



In a tightly contested match in Division 3, Wooburn won the toss and put Falkland in on a track that was always going to give the bowlers assistance. Without their ever-present captain Paul Sullivan, who was suffering from muscle strain, Wooburn relied on the combination of the Cuthberts and Tim Waxman. The artful captaincy of old pro Stuart Savage and some extremely keen Wooburn fielding, contributed to the Falkland downfall.



An inspired spell from Ian Cuthbert, moving into the all-rounder category in recent weeks, accounted for four of the first five wickets, while Aubrey held firm at the other end. The lively Waxman bowled with speed and accuracy and was rewarded with 2-28 at the end of his excellent spell, ably supported by Phil Cuthbert and Jeff Morris. Wooburn took virtually every chance offered to dismiss Falkland for 151.



The Narks started steadily in reply, with runs coming at the cost of losing Phil Lawless and Ian Cuthbert. Angus Porter\s early dismissal sent a shockwave through the Wooburn dressing room, but Savage turned things around. A man full of runs this season, Savage steadied the ship, giving the lower order the chance to chase the win.



Wickets continued to fall, including that of Savage, having scored a magnificent 47. Rogers, Chivers and Evans kept up the good work, with Chivers batting well against some very testing bowling to steer his side to victory, and frustrate Falkland\s charge to Division 2.
