CUTHBERT TON ENSURES SHARE OF THE SPOILS
In a tight Thames Valley Division 3 contest, Wooburn Narkovians took on Old Meadonians on a pitch that at first glance insinuated trepidation among the bowlers on Saturday.
Wooburn were inserted and the innings began slowly. After reaching 68-2 off 21 overs, Ian Cuthbert was joined at the crease by Savage in a partnership of 136 off 25 overs, before Savage was dismissed by Kelly for 58. Off the following delivery, Cuthbert was removed for a powerful and consistent 117. A further 30 runs were added leaving Wooburn 230-6, and Kelly figures of 4-80 off 23 overs.
In reply, Old Meadonians slumped to 53-3 due to some poor running between the wickets, allowing Kelly to enter the scene. A partnership of 80 between Briscoe (60) and Kelly (44), both dismissed within six balls, kept the game alive and a solid innings from Barnes (44 not out) aided by Sanders left eight runs needed for victory off the last over. Tight fielding and bowling only allowed six singles, to leave the game drawn, both teams receiving an unrewarding eight points.
