Ten Wicket Tennant denies selection rift

Despite a strong result the previous week, Wooburn skipper M.Tennant felt the need for change as the Wooburn 1st XI took on Harefield 2’s. It’s not often that a bowler who takes all 10 wickets is dropped the following week, but such is the dynamic of the Wooburn selection committee, 10 for Tennant was sent packing to an additional training camp in Spain, with brother A.Tennant given the reigns. Rumours on social media suggested this was an incredibly shrewd move, however the decision to only field 10 players can seemingly be blamed on an admin error. The reality was that Wooburn lacked the edge that the likes of M.Tennant brings. Whilst older brother Andrew managed an immediate victory in winning the toss, being 5 down for not very many wasn’t in the plan. Although stalwart J.F.White, batting in a noticeably polish helmet, presumably an endeavour across the winter, it was only M.Farnon that gave the Harefield bowlers reason to think, as Wooburn batsmen came and went with worrying ease. G.Taylor helped Farnon out and contributed with a 10.0 on drive, but ultimately it was a rejuvenated Farnon who played a class innings, scoring off anything wayward.   In a recent vote at the AGM of the Hampshire cricket league, a motion was put forward to scrap the tea break in order to speed up the game. Clearly this preposterous motion was beaten, and by 140 votes to 8, and clearly some or all of those 140 had taken tea at Harefield. The players were treated to a variety of high value sandwiches (think Corrie chicken and tuna) , with ham and cheese bagels, potato wedges and chicken dippers. If this wasn’t enough, an abundance of French Fancies and tub of Vanilla Ice Cream was, to put it mildly… very well received.  Whilst this reporter tries to offer a balanced and comprehensive review of each passage of play, the Harefield innings can be summed up rather neatly. Wooburn didn’t bowl well and whilst Dan Broughton showed promise with 2 wickets, Harefield made easy work of the modest Wooburn total.
