Match Report

After a good start to the day with captain Gerrish winning the toss and choosing to bat, the Wooburn Narks openers took to the field in good spirit. It was a mere 4 balls before captain Gerrish was trudging from the field with his off stump missing its bail.   Out strode Richie Barker at number 3, fresh from his heroics in last weeks fixture to provide some stability. Indeed, Barker would continue to occupy the crease until a former knee injury flared up and put an end to proceedings after he moved past 50.   R. Wheeler was the partner at the other end of the crease and was thus in prime view to see a lovely RB knock. Wheeler himself chipped in with a useful 28 to support Barker, however, his wicket fell on the stroke of drinks to bring in William Cuthbert at number 4. Having spent most of the winter frequenting pubs in Oxford, Cuthbert strode out to take charge of the innings and batted beautifully for his 58*.  Elsewhere in proceedings, Joe Lawrie hit a brisk 16 before an unfortunate run out concluded his innings. Wooburn Narks batted valiantly for a defendable 181-8 After a thoroughly enjoyable tea, Wooburn Narks strode out into the field, confident that they had enough runs on the board to see them over the line. This, perhaps would have been true in most games, however, as the Stoke Green opener set to his taks, it became apparent that despite Karun Singh being “out of nick”, he was still more than capable of putting the first over for 15.   This somewhat set the tone of the innings and despite an early breakthrough from captain Gerrish, Stoke Green were looking very handy with 76-2 on their brand new score board.   However, 2 quick wickets, including a quick stumping and a catch in the covers from the keeper, seemed to change the mood on field, this was perhaps confounded when K. Singh moved past 100 and then decided he was bored of cricket and decided that the BBQ looked far more interesting. This left Stoke Green at 148-5 Unfortunately, and despite a super catch from Alistair Lamming, the Stoke Green no’8 hurled their side over the line with a 6 over mid-on to hand victory to the home side.
