BRAY ATTACK IS SAVAGED

Wooburn Narkovians notched up a good win over Maidenhead & Bray on Sunday. The Narkovians play two divisions below Maidenhead & Bray in the new Thames Valley League, and managed a notable upset against a depleted Bray side.

Playing at home, Wooburn batted first and took an early grip on the game. Paul Cooper and Alan Cuthbert put on 79 for the first wicket. Alan Cuthbert was the first to go, caught behind after making 53. Rob Smith then shared in a second wicket stand of 33 before Cooper was run out for 42. Stuart Savage and Smith continued the good work, putting on 107, before Savage was caught off the bowling of Newman for 79. Wickets fell in the quest for quick runs, and Wooburn declared on 240-5.

Maidenhead & Bray started disasterously as Clive Baskerville was run out with only one run on the board. Wendall Coppin started to punish the Wooburn bowling, but he was run out for 22 with the score on 32. The innings then collapsed to 38-5, but Kevin Murray (54) and Dave Mason (13) staged a recovery, putting on 54 for the sixth wicket. However, when both were out the innings again subsided, with the visitors dismissed for 113.

With three run outs in the innings, the Maidenhead & Bray batsmen generally brought about their own downfall. Paul Sullivan (3-39) and Chris Bateman (2-16) were the main wicket takers, with Stuart Evans also having success.
