WOOBURN FAIL TO KEEP UP WITH ROYAL ASCOT
Wooburn Narkovians were bowled out in less than 40 overs after refusing to stop chasing the 218 they needed to beat Royal Ascot in Saturday\s Thames Valley League Division Three clash. Ascot\s runs had come relatively easily against a mediocre-looking Wooburn attack on a good batting strip. Nothing happened in Ascot\s innings to suggest Wooburn, stronger in batting, would come out with anything worse than a draw.
Ascot lost both their openers, wicket-keeper Howard Green and captain Gary Abrams, before they reached ten. But Steve Weare and Brian Davison quickly began to flourish. Davison was dropped behind by Angus Porter when he was on 19, and the score on 47. Weare dislocated his shoulder diving for a three, but Ascot never looked back.
Wooburn\s reply started badly with openers Ian Cuthbert and Porter back in the pavilion with 13 runs on the board. The innings disintegrated, and when Cooper was eight out, the writing was on the wall.
