SULLIVAN STARS BUT WOOBURN MISS OUT
Paul Sullivan\s haul of 5-59 wasn\t enough to save Wooburn Narkovians from a one wicket defeat against Aldershot in Division 3 of the Thames Valley League on Saturday.
Wooburn, invited to bat first, made a steady start with Angus Porter (28) and Ian Cuthbert (42) putting on 58 for the first wicket. When Porter fell, David Smith (41) entered the fray to keep the run rate moving, before Paul Cuthbert settled in quickly to hit 19. Paul Sullivan (12*) kept the momentum going with a massive six, and Wooburn finished on 197-9.
In reply, Aldershot looked comfortable early on, with openers Varney (46) and Grover (50) putting on 110 for the first wicket. However, the downfall of these two caused a collapse of almost catastrophic effect with Williamson, Mumby, Goskin and Gass all falling cheaply to the artistry of Paul Cuthbert (4-40) and the resilience of Paul Sullivan.
Birch (16) and Bossom (23) briefly righted the ship, however, they precipitated another minor collapse to leave the last pair at the wicket requiring 13 to win from just over three overs. Pippet and Warwick survived two close run out calls to take Aldershot to victory with two balls remaining.
