SUPER-FORM COLLINS SHORES UP BRAY

On Sunday, Bray hosted Wooburn Narkovians. Wooburn batted first and were soon in trouble as Nigel Turner was dismissed in the first over by Matthew Cowan, who went on to take the wicket of Dave Rogers as well in a testing spell. Seamer Nick Humphrey went through a fragile middle order to leave the visitors precariously placed at 86-6. Phil Cuthbert and Peter Selleck then took the attack to the bowlers, scoring 25 and 35 respectively in stands worth 44 and 88 with Dave Pidgeon.

Pidgeon, having played himself in, unleashed some fine cuts and drives as the Bray bowlers lost control. He reached a deserved century in the 43rd over and, although he gave a number of chances, it was a particularly fine innings. Cowan finished with 4-73 from 14 overs and Humphrey 3-57.

A target of 248 to win was always going to be a tough one, but Collins set about the task with purpose. His cover driving and square cutting was a delight to watch, and his defence was solid. Dumville and Chris Bowler helped Collins take the total to 111-3. At this stage Bray had an outside chance, but none of the remaining batsmen were able to give Collins the necessary report.

Collins was finally out three short of a deserved century after hitting 13 fours and a six. His last three innings have been 97, 47 and 63. Armstrong and Cowan played out for the draw at 188-8. Wooburn skipper Phil Thomas bowled a cagey spell to take 3-23 from 11 overs, with three maidens.
