WAXMAN PUTS NARKS ON TOP

A five wicket haul from Tim Waxman bowled Wooburn Narkovians 2nd XI to a 25 point win over Chalfont St. Peter in Division 3 of the Fullers Thames Valley League on Saturday. The win put Wooburn on top of the table, although Bessborough are expected to go higher as one of their games was called off by Caversham & Sonning, and they are likely to be awarded win points for the fixture.

Wooburn were put in on a damp track, but the early batsmen made light of the difficult conditions. Dave Rogers (39) and Angus Porter (42) were in particularly good form, but then came the Wooburn wobble as wickets fell at regular intervals in the face of some very useful spin bowling from Shaw and Sewell, who had the batsmen in all sorts of trouble. Karl Turner made a defiant 18 and Gary Mayo added 17 not out to take Wooburn to a respectable, but reachable, 155.

Wooburn kept the old ball for the start of Chalfont\s innings and it paid dividends in the first over when the spin of Bateman induced a mis-hit drive from Pearse, and Rob Smith took a fine catch. The Wooburn bowlers took control as Mayo and Waxman bowled economically, tying down the home side\s batsmen. Only an impressive 22 from Gregson and a sturdy 15 from Shaw kept Chalfont in the game, but the Wooburn attack, backed up by fine fielding, bowled them out for 97. Waxman went on to take 5-27 from 12 overs and Mayo 4-47 from 19 overs.
