TURNER RIGHTS THE WOOBURN WOBBLE
A good knock from Nigel Turner helped Wooburn Narkovians 2nd XI keep up their winning streak with a fine win over Thatcham Town on Saturday. The Narks are currently second in Division 3 of the Thames Valley League, with three wins from their four games.
On a perfect batting track at Wooburn Park, the home side had no hesitation in putting their opponents in. This nearly backfired as Thatcham reached 83-0. Gary Mayo and Jeff Morris then halted the Thatcham run spree and after their allotted 52 overs the visitors could only make 200-8. Phil Cuthbert picked up three quick wickets at the end.
The Wooburn batting suffered an early wobble and at 37-3 their cause looked lost. A fine 60 from Turner, assisted by Morris and Cuthbert, brought Wooburn back into contention. However, when all three were out a win was still unlikely, but then Andy Lord took a liking to Fraser, hitting him for a six and three fours in two overs. Lord (32) then played a rash shot and was bowled, but Dale Johnson flicked the ball off his legs for the winning runs, to ease the anxietes of the home supporters.
